Events & Festivals

From Highland Games to summer concerts — there is always something to celebrate in Kincardine.

Kincardine is a town that knows how to celebrate. Throughout the year, a vibrant calendar of events brings the community together and gives visitors compelling reasons to plan a trip. From the internationally recognized Scottish Festival and Highland Games to intimate summer concerts, weekly pipe band parades, and seasonal festivals, there is a remarkable energy and spirit to Kincardine's event scene. These events are not just entertainment — they are expressions of the town's identity, heritage, and community pride.

Scottish Festival & Highland Games

The Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games is the marquee event on the town's calendar and one of the premier Scottish cultural celebrations in Ontario. Held annually each summer, this multi-day festival draws thousands of visitors who come to experience the pageantry, athleticism, and cultural richness of the Scottish Highland tradition.

The Highland Games feature traditional heavy athletics including the caber toss, stone put, hammer throw, and sheaf toss, performed by competitors in full Highland dress. The spectacle of athletes launching cabers end over end against a backdrop of Lake Huron is uniquely Kincardine. Alongside the athletics, visitors enjoy Highland dancing competitions, piping and drumming contests, and massed band performances that bring together pipe bands from across the region.

The festival also includes clan gatherings, genealogy resources, Scottish food vendors, whisky tastings, artisan markets, and live music. It is a weekend that immerses you completely in Scottish culture and leaves you with a profound appreciation for the heritage that shapes this community.

Kincardine Summer Music Festival

The Kincardine Summer Music Festival has earned a reputation as one of the finest chamber music festivals in Ontario. Each summer, world-class musicians perform in intimate venues throughout town, creating an experience that combines exceptional artistry with the charm of a small lakeside community. Concerts range from classical ensembles to jazz, folk, and contemporary performances, attracting music lovers from across the province.

What makes this festival special is its scale and setting. Performances in historic churches, community halls, and outdoor venues create an intimacy between performers and audience that large urban concert halls cannot replicate. Many festival-goers combine their musical experience with Kincardine's beaches, dining, and other attractions, making it a truly enriching getaway.

Weekly Pipe Band Parades

Every Saturday evening from late June through Labour Day, the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band marches through downtown in what has become the town's most beloved recurring event. The parade draws hundreds of spectators to Queen Street each week, and the atmosphere is festive, communal, and thoroughly enjoyable. For many visitors, the Saturday pipe band parade is the defining Kincardine experience.

The parade typically begins in the early evening and concludes at Pipe Band Park near the waterfront, where the band performs additional sets. Combined with the sunset and a waterfront dinner, it makes for an unforgettable Saturday evening.

Seasonal Events

Spring

Spring in Kincardine brings the town back to life after winter. Opening weekend events at the beach, early farmers' markets, and community clean-up days signal the start of a new season. The Victoria Day long weekend traditionally marks the beginning of cottage season and the first major influx of visitors.

Summer

Summer is when Kincardine truly comes alive. Beyond the Scottish Festival and pipe band parades, the town hosts Canada Day celebrations, beach events, outdoor movie nights in Victoria Park, art walks, and food festivals. The harbour area becomes a hub of activity with markets, live music, and community gatherings happening throughout the week.

Autumn

Fall brings harvest festivals, Thanksgiving events, and the spectacular autumn colours that transform Bruce County's forests. The quieter pace of autumn makes it an ideal time to explore the trails and enjoy the still-warm lake. Halloween events and seasonal markets round out a colourful autumn calendar.

Winter

Winter events include holiday markets, Christmas celebrations, New Year's festivities, and ice fishing derbies. The town's winter festival features outdoor activities, community meals, and entertainment that prove Kincardine is a year-round destination.
